Dealing with property damage is stressful enough without having to navigate the insurance claims process alone. At Purified Flood Remediation Services, we help simplify the experience by providing professional documentation, clear communication, and dependable support from the initial inspection through the restoration process.

Our team carefully documents all affected areas using photographs, moisture readings, and detailed inspection reports to help support your insurance claim. We also prepare accurate estimates using Xactimate, the industry’s leading restoration estimating software, and work directly with your assigned insurance adjuster throughout the claims process.

Our goal is to make the experience as smooth and stress-free as possible so you can focus on getting your home or business back to normal.

Understanding The Three Categories of Water Damage

Water damage is classified into three categories based on the level of contamination and the potential health risk it poses. Identifying the correct category is essential for determining the safest and most effective restoration process.

Category 1 - Clean Water

Category 1 water damage involves clean, sanitary water that poses little to no immediate health risk. It typically originates from sources such as water supply lines, pressurized hot or cold water pipes, bathtubs, or anything supplied by clean water. While initially considered the least contaminated type of water damage, Category 1 can quickly deteriorate into a more hazardous category if it is not promptly removed and the affected materials are not properly dried.

Category 2 - Gray Water

Category 2 water damage involves water that contains a significant level of contaminants and may cause discomfort or illness if it comes into contact with people or is ingested. Common sources include washing machines, dishwashers, garbage disposals, and sump pumps. If not addressed promptly, category 2 water can quickly deteriorate into the more hazardous Category 3, increasing both health risks and the extent of property damage.

Category 3 - Black Water

Category 3 water damage, commonly known or referred to as “Black Water,” is the most hazardous level of water contamination. It contains harmful bacteria, pathogens, and other contaminants that can cause serious illness and should only be handled by trained restoration professionals using proper protective equipment. Common sources include mainline sewage backups, toilet overflows containing fecal matter, floodwater from rivers or storms, and other highly contaminated water sources. Water from a Category 1 or Category 2 loss can also deteriorate into a Category 3 if left untreated, significantly increasing health risks and the extent of property damage. Immediate professional clean up and disinfection are essential to safely restore your home or business.
